According to reports, Liverpool have identified Borussia Dortmund winger Karim Adeyemi as a transfer target and a long-term replacement for Mo Salah.
Adeyemi, 22, scored a hat trick for Dortmund in their last game against Celtic in the Champions League whilst Liverpool were playing Bologna on Wednesday night.
The German winger already has three goals and one assist in the Champions League after just two matches. He has also netted twice and recorded three assists in the Bundesliga five games into the season.
According to German media outlet BILD, the winger could make a move to Liverpool as the Reds have already had scouts monitoring him in the Bundesliga this season.
The report also suggests that Liverpool see Adeyemi as a replacement for Mo Salah whose contract at Anfield expires at the end of this season.
Borussia Dortmund’s asking price for the 22-year-old is understood to be around the £42 million mark after they signed him from RB Salzburg for £24 million in 2022.
Karim Adeyemi already attracted Premier League interest over the summer
Adeyemi was a player in demand in the last transfer window, but the Premier League interest didn’t come from the Reds.
The German international was linked to Chelsea early on in the window as the Blues targeted the winger who was also on the radar of Serie A side Juventus.
There has also been reported interest from Manchester United as the Red Devils also have an eye on Adeyemi as a possible replacement for Antony who has been in poor form.
It seems as though when the January transfer window rolls around, it may not be easy for Liverpool to land the 22-year-old unless they dip into their pockets.
Mo Salah’s contract situation at Liverpool
Salah has just nine months left on his contract with Liverpool after seven years at Anfield. He has made over 350 appearances for the Reds scoring 216 goals.
Liverpool are in talks with the 32-year-old over a new deal, but there is uncertainty as the winger had already said in an interview with Sky Sports after the Reds’ 3-0 win over Manchester United that he was in his last season on Merseyside.
According to TeamTalk, Liverpool is lining up an offer for Salah that would make him the most-paid player in the club’s history. But if he does depart, Adeyemi could be the next star winger for Arne Slot’s side.
