Emmanuel Petit doesn’t think Liverpool will secure the signature of Napoli winger Khvicha Kvaratskhelia this month.
Respected sources claim the Reds are interested in recruiting the Georgian international. However, speaking exclusively to Walkon.com on behalf of Casino Utan Spelpaus, Petit suggested that Paris Saint-Germain are in the driving seat to snap up Kvaratskhelia with the Ligue One champions likely to offer more first-team opportunities than Arne Slot’s side:
“How many players do they want Liverpool up front? At the end of the day, you can only play with 11 players. I’m a huge fan of Kvaratskhelia. I watched him as well with Georgia. I think he’s been tremendous for them. He’s probably one of the best players in Serie A. If I am Kvaratskhelia, I’m thinking, where I am going to play? Am I going to play every single game?”
“Maybe he looks at some other clubs in Europe, starting with Paris Saint-Germain. This is exactly what Paris Saint-Germain needs. That kind of quality player. The system that Luis Enrique wants to play, I think will fit him perfectly.”
“So, it’s not a surprise for me that some Paris Saint-Germain players are on the market actually. Kang-in Lee has been linked with an exit, but there is also the French guy, Randal Kolo Muani. He is not in Luis Enrique’s mind anymore, hasn’t been for months. I think the door is open for Kvaratskhelia to join Paris Saint-Germain.”
Liverpool are among several Premier League suitors
It was reported at the weekend that the Reds had contacted Kvaratskhelia’s representatives, along with Chelsea, Arsenal and Manchester City, as they wanted to be kept apprised of developments.
While PSG are believed to have agreed personal terms with the forward, there is still some way to go in terms of closing the deal with Napoli.
PSG have yet to meet Kvaratskhelia’s asking price
It is believed that Napoli are demanding around €80m (£67m) for their player. You wouldn’t expect that sort of fee would put off the Qatar-state-funded French club but no agreement has been reached so far.
Of course, the bigger question is whether Liverpool would step in and pay the money if the switch to Paris stalls. At the moment, that doesn’t seem that likely.
With the Reds also set to miss out on Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi, fans will be rightly be asking whether the club are really willing to push the boat out to secure signings that could improve the squad in key areas.
