Liverpool are “exploring” a potential deal for Bayern Munich’s Kingsley Coman, according to Defensa Central.

The Spanish rumour mongers claim that the Reds have ended their interest in Real Madrid pair Brahim Diaz and Rodrygo, after having their approaches rebuffed. They have decided instead to pursue a “Plan B”, with a move for Coman said to be in the works.

It has been claimed that the France international will be allowed to leave Bayern this summer. Credible reports in Germany suggest that the Bundesliga side are open to loaning out the winger, with an option to buy.

Coman has been linked with other Premier League teams, including Arsenal, but Barcelona are the club that have been credited with the most interest in the player up until now.

Manager Hansi Flick (who is a former Bayern head coach), is keen to work with Coman again, and he is being considered as a cheaper alternative to Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams.

Liverpool are in the market for a wide forward

It has now emerged that the Reds had a deal in place to sign Anthony Gordon earlier this summer (with Joe Gomez moving in the other direction) before Newcastle pulled the plug on the deal.

There have been subsequent rumours about Luis Diaz leaving Anfield, which has prompted further speculation about a new wide player being brought in. In that context, the rumours about Coman are not that surprising.

Coman’s injury record is alarming

One potential fly in the ointment is the 28-year-old’s fitness problems. Last season alone, he picked up no less than 5 different injuries, keeping him out of action for 21 matches in total.

Coman is undoubtedly a very talented player and you could make the case for him joining on loan, but there are justifiable concerns that he would spend most of his time at the club on the treatment table.
