‘Going To End In Heartbreak’ ‘Waste Of Time’ Fans Pessimistic As Liverpool Pursue “One Of The Best” Defenders In Europe

Liverpool and Manchester United are both “actively pursuing” Lille defender Leny Yoro, according to The Athletic.

The Frenchman is regarded as a top target for both teams but it is believed that Real Madrid are the player’s preferred destination.

With the Reds having lost out to Real for Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham over the last two summers, supporters on X are not optimistic that they will win the race for Yoro:

Yoro is a highly-rated young centre-back

Despite still only being a teenager, the Frenchman established himself as a regular starter for Lille last season. His manager Paulo Fonseca says Yoro can go right to the very top:

โ€œItโ€™s not normal to have an 18-year-old player like Leny with this maturity and the technical qualities he has.”

โ€œFor me, he will be one of the best central defenders in France and probably in Europe. He is very balanced, and there is no doubt that he will be a very great player.โ€

How much will Liverpool have to pay for the defender?

Yoro is in the final year of his contract so Lille won’t be able to hold out for a sky-high asking price. However, the interest from other teams, including United and Real, means they can still expect to receive a rather high sum.

It has been reported that it may take as much as โ‚ฌ60m (ยฃ50m) to secure the 18-year-old’s signature, although Real may try to lower his price, knowing the player wants to join them.
