Feyenoord are “very keen” to sell Liverpool transfer target Lutsharel Geertruida, according to De Telegraaf (via Soccernews.nl).
The Dutch newspaper claims that the Eredivisie side need to offload the Netherlands international, who has been capped 8 times by his country, as he is closing in on the final year of his contract.
Geertruida played regularly under Arne Slot last season, making 47 appearances in all competitions, and it seems like he could bring the player with him to Anfield.
De Telegraaf report that the Reds, Tottenham and Arsenal are all weighing up moves for the 23-year-old.
How much would Geertruida cost?
It has been suggested that Feyenoord would demand around €30m (£25.5m) for the defender, having turned down a €25m (£21m) bid from RB Leipzig last summer.
However, Gertruida’s contract situation does mean that his value has begun to deteriorate. If he isn’t sold before the transfer window closes, Feyenoord would risk losing him for nothing next year.
Of course, competition for his signature could help in terms of maintaining the price but, if Geertruida is keen on linking up with his former manager, the Reds would have a very good negotiating position.
What sort of player would Liverpool be getting?
Geertruida is very versatile, having been deployed by Slot right across the back four last campaign. He can even play as a holding midfield player if needed.
His performances at right-back, though, were particularly impressive, and he ended the season with 9 goals and 5 assists.
If Geertruida were signed, it would suggest that Slot is considering moving Trent Alexander-Arnold into midfield on a permanent basis.
The 25-year-old is expected to play there for England during the European Championships (if Gareth Southgate chooses to start him) and his club manager will be looking on with interest.
