‘The Focus Of Attention’ – Report Claims Liverpool And PL Rival Could Table January Bids For £34M Midfielder

Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Manu Kone is attracting interest from Liverpool and Tottenham, according to TuttoJuve.com.

The Italian website claims that the France Under 21 international is the “focus of attention” for both clubs as they consider bids during the January transfer window.

Kone has been on the Reds’ radar for quite some time, and there was a lot of speculation last summer that a switch to Anfield was on the cards.

However, the 22-year-old picked up a knee injury during the European Under 21 Championships and interest in the player cooled. TuttoJuve now say that the Merseysiders could “reconsider” a move for the player this month.

How much would Liverpool need to pay for Kone?

It is believed that Gladbach would want at least €40m (£34m), which is a pretty reasonable figure considering what other midfielders have cost over the past 12 months.

Even so, there are question marks about Kone. Jurgen Klopp’s side are looking for a No.6 and, while the Frenchman can play in that role, he is still young and lacks the necessary experience.

Are Liverpool considering alternative targets?

Fulham’s Joao Palhinha has been regularly linked with a switch to Anfield but both his age and asking price make a move for the midfielder unlikely in January.

There have also been rumours that the Reds are interested in Aston Villa’s Douglas Luiz. The Brazilian is a few years younger than Palhinha, but he could prove to be just as expensive.

Some have suggested that Liverpool may opt against signing a midfielder entirely. With Alexis Mac Allister back to fitness, and Thiago Alcantara also said to be close to making his comeback, Klopp will soon have plenty of options available to him in the middle of the park.
