Liverpool and Crystal Palace will hold more conversations about Marc Guehi before the transfer window shuts, according to The Athletic reporter David Ornstein.

The trusted journalist says there is no guarantee that the 25-year-old will make the switch to Anfield at this stage but the move is by no means dead:

“At this moment, from what I hear, if the clubs [Liverpool and Crystal Palace] agreed a deal, I think he would veer towards making a move, but the conditions have to be right…”

“There’s actually sort of no concrete movement in the last couple of weeks since there were conversations between Palace and Liverpool, but expect more to take place before the end of the window. It’s just whether they lead to a transfer or not.”

What is holding up Guehi’s move?

Despite the England international having less than a year left on his contract, Palace are said to be holding out for as much as £45m. Liverpool have no intention of paying that much.

Other Premier League clubs, including Chelsea, Tottenham and Newcastle have been credited with an interest in Guehi, but the player is said to have prioritised a move to Merseyside.

That allays any fears that the transfer could be hijacked, allowing Arne Slot’s side to be patient in negotiations. Eagles chairman Steve Parish has already made it clear that he doesn’t want to let Guehi leave on a free next year, so you do feel that a compromise on the asking price will be found.

It has been a very busy transfer window for sporting director Richard Hughes. The likes of Jeremie Frimpong, Milos Kerkez, Florian Wirtz, Hugo Ekitike, Freddie Woodman, Armin Pecsi and Giovanni Leoni have all been snapped up over the last couple of months.

Based on what has been said, it does seem like the Reds would be keen on making Guehi their eighth new addition if an agreement on the transfer fee can be reached.
