Thomas Tuchel Offers Insight Into How Marc Guehi Has Reacted After Deadline Day Move To Liverpool Collapsed

England boss Thomas Tuchel has revealed that he has had a private conversation with Marc Guehi after his failed transfer to Liverpool.

Crystal Palace pulled out of the deal at the very last moment, with reports surfacing that the centre-back was furious about the decision. Asked about Guehi‘s mindset heading into England’s World Cup qualifiers against Andorra and Serbia, Tuchel replied:

“We had a chat with him and he looks absolutely fine. He looks very impressive on the field. He has a couple of very impressive weeks behind him on the sporting side and the performance side. He is the main driver of Crystal Palace’s success.”

“He is the captain and the leader. He played very impressively at the end of last season and at the start of this season.”

“He continued exactly like this in camp, so it was very impressive. He handles it with respect and with grace, and with a brilliant attitude.”

Why did the centre-back’s move to Anfield collapse?

There are differing accounts on what happened. Some believe that the failure to sign Igor Julio’s on loan from Brighton led to Palace pulling the plug as they could not find another replacement for Guehi.

Others claim that head coach Oliver Glasner threatened to quit if the player was sold, leading to chairman Steve Parish making a U-turn.

Will Liverpool revive their interest in Guehi?

It’s too early to predict whether the Reds will make another approach for the former Chelsea defender.

There are suggestions that the Merseysiders could make another bid in January, with the aim of securing his services for a much lower price than the £35m they offered last month.

However, Guehi would be well within his rights to leave Palace on a free transfer when his contract expires next summer. He will then have his pick of clubs.
