Liverpool are likely to be keeping close tabs on Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
Writing his Daily Briefing column, Romano said that, while the Reds may consider making a move for the England international, any transfer is only expected to happen after the European Championships:
“Marc Guehi has been linked with Liverpool (as well as other clubs) several times and he’s impressing with England at the Euros. There is interest from many clubs, but nothing close or concrete yet as he wants to focus on the tournament now and not be distracted.
“For sure, Guehi remains an interesting name for this summer with two years left on his contract at Crystal Palace.”
Liverpool are not the only Premier League side pursuing the centre-back
Manchester United, Tottenham and Arsenal have also been credited with an interest in the former Chelsea player in recent months.
Guehi’s standout displays for England in Germany could lead to more teams getting involved in the battle for his signature so Arne Slot’s side may have to move fast if they want to sign him.
Guehi has a high asking price
Depending on what report you read, Palace are believed to be demanding anywhere between £55m and £65m for the 23-year-old. Whether they will be able to stand firm on that valuation may hinge on how many teams end up making bids.
The fact that Guehi is unlikely to sign a contract extension means that the Eagles are not in the strongest position to negotiate. If they don’t sell him this summer, they will be forced into accepting lower offers for him either in January or at the end of next season. We shall see if Liverpool do make a concerted effort to snap him up following the Euros.
