Crystal Palace defender Marc Guehi is “excited” by the prospect of joining Liverpool, according to TEAMtalk.
The website claims that the Reds are now confident of securing the services of the England international ahead of other Premier League clubs.
Guehi has also been linked with Manchester United and Tottenham but Arne Slot’s side are said to be in pole position to sign him.
TEAMtalk report that they will “move quickly” to snap up the former Chelsea player, even if the centre-back’s £65m asking price is pretty steep.
Guehi performed well for his country at the Euros, with his reputation strengthened by his displays in Germany, leading to Palace increasing their valuation.
Liverpool’s interest in Guehi has been questioned
A number of other sources have cast doubt on the Reds’ pursuit, with some even suggesting that the 24-year-old isn’t even on the club’s radar.
It is, therefore, wise to treat these claims about Guehi with a pinch of salt. There is, however, no disputing the fact that the Merseysiders are looking to sign a new centre-half this summer.
Are other centre-backs being targeted?
Reports in the German media have claimed that RB Leipzig’s Mohamed Simakan is a player that Liverpool are scouting. Other names, such as Sporting Lisbon’s Goncalo Inacio, Juventus’s Gleison Bremer and Lille’s Leny Yoro have been bandied around.
However, the interest in Yoro is believed to have cooled somewhat. Once it became clear that the teenager’s preferred destination was Real Madrid, the Reds stepped back.
That hasn’t stopped Manchester United from tabling an offer for Yoro but, after losing out on Aurelien Tchouameni and Jude Bellingham over the last two summers, Liverpool know better than to try going head-to-head with Real for a transfer target.
If Guehi ends up being the backup plan, most would agree that he would be a very good addition to the squad.
