Liverpool are reportedly considering a move to sign Crystal Palace defender Maxence Lacroix instead of Marc Guehi.
The Reds are in a position of peril right now, having lost their last two matches to Crystal Palace and, more recently, to Galatasaray in the Champions League.
Arne Slot will hope that his side can get back to winning ways in the Premier League at the weekend, although they face a tough trip to Chelsea on Saturday night. One of Liverpool’s biggest issues so far this season has been at the back, which is doubly frustrating as they missed out on signing Marc Guehi during the summer transfer window.
The Reds are expected to go in for Guehi again in January, but they could struggle as Tottenham, Newcastle and Chelsea are all interested in the England international too. Reports are now saying they could go after one of Guehi’s Crystal Palace teammates instead.
Liverpool considering a move for Lacroix
Amid the uncertainty of a Guehi to Liverpool move, rumours are beginning to appear suggesting that the Reds could make a move for Guehi’s Palace teammate Maxence Lacroix.
According to Football Insider, Liverpool have been scouting Lacroix, and believe that the French centre-back is up there with the best in the Premier League. The report actually says that the Reds’ scouts view Lacroix as a “Rolls-Royce” defender.
So far this season, the 25-year-old has made 11 appearances for the Eagles, providing one assist, and helping Palace up to third in the Premier League table, and looking like serious challengers for Champions League football next year.
Palace paid £18m for the defender in the summer of 2024, his current market value is estimated at £22m, but the Eagles would likely demand a lot more based on the fact that he has been one of the best defenders in the Premier League.
