Liverpool have reportedly shown an interest in Girona full-back Miguel Gutierrez as a long-term replacement for Trent Alexander-Arnold.
Trent is out of contract at the end of the season, and there has not yet been any indication as to Liverpool offering him an extension. Real Madrid seems the most likely destination for the England international, who would join up with Jude Bellingham.
Arne Slot’s side are in pole position to win the Premier League this season but will be looking ahead to next season when they may lose Trent, alongside Mo Salah and Virgil van Dijk.
The Reds are keeping tabs on potential replacements for the trio, and a replacement at full-back has emerged as a transfer target in recent weeks.
According to Journalist David Lynch on Substack, Liverpool are keen on Girona defender Miguel Gutierrez. The 23-year-old reportedly has a £29m release clause in his contract at the La Liga side.
Lynch said that Liverpool are eyeing him up alongside Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez, who they have been linked to in recent weeks. However, Gutierrez would provide Arne Slot with a cheaper alternative, as Kerkez is expected to cost around £50m.
Who is Liverpool target Miguel Gutierrez?
The Girona full-back can play both on the left and the right hand side, and at the age of just 23, has plenty of development left in him.
Gutierrez came through the academy at Real Madrid, where he was eventually promoted to the first team, by then manager Zinedine Zidane, who really liked him as a player.
However, after making just 10 appearances for Madrid, Gutierrez moved to Girona for a small fee of just £3.3m. He has since become a key part of the starting XI at the Spanish side, making 102 appearances in three years with the club.
He’s scored six goals and provided 18 assists, showing that he is very much an attacking full-back who likes to create chances, much like Alexander-Arnold.
