REPORT: Liverpool And United Among 7 Teams ‘Pushing’ To Sign Senegalese Wonderkid

Liverpool have been “pushing” to secure the signature of Barcelona centre-back Mikayil Faye, according to Mundo Deportivo.

The Senegalese international only moved to the Camp Nou from NK Kustosija last summer but he has yet to make his first-team debut, having played all of his minutes for the B team so far.

Lens even tabled a €9m (£7.7m) bid for Faye in January, but the offer was turned down, with Barca keen to keep hold of the 19-year-old due to his undoubted potential.

Mundo Deportivo claim that Liverpool, Manchester United, Bayern Munich, Lille, Monaco, Nice and Lens have made further enquiries since then. However, a final decision on Faye’s future has yet to be made.

Faye’s agents have been pushing for an answer from Barcelona

It is believed that the defender’s representatives Juanma Lopez and Andy Bara spoke with Barca’s sporting director Deco about the player’s situation on Wednesday.

Nothing was ultimately decided during the meeting but the main issue is said to be the future of manager Xavi. The Spaniard has announced that he will leave the Catalan club at the end of the season but there are reports that President Joan Laporta has tried to persuade him to stay.

Whatever happens with the head coach, though, Faye is keen to be part of the first-team setup next season. If he isn’t, the Senegalese star may push for a move.

Liverpool could have a lot of competition for the player

In addition to the six other teams mentioned by Mundo Deportivo, reports in the Italian media earlier this month also credited Chelsea, Arsenal, Juventus, Inter Milan and Borussia Dortmund with an interest in Faye.

While it seems the Reds are keen to snap up the centre-half, they will have to fend off plenty of rivals in order to get him this summer.
