“Their Interest Is Real” – Well Connected Source Raises Prospect Of Liverpool Signing £40M Rated Defender

Former Hungarian international Istvan Salloi has revealed on his podcast that he believes Liverpool hold a genuine interest in Bournemouth defender Milos Kerkez.

Speaking on Teljes Terjedelem, Salloi said that he even enquired with Dominik Szoboszlai to confirm that the Reds are pursuing the left-back:

“He [Kerkez] is in very good shape, [his signing] is absolutely on the table at Liverpool, the sporting director [Richard Hughes] who took him to England is now at Liverpool.”

“We also spoke with Dominik Szoboszlai about this, and he also knows that he is in the picture that their interest is real.”

Kerkez has been backed as a target for the January transfer window

Speaking earlier this week, Liverpool legend Jamie Carragher urged his former club to make a move for the fullback next month following his strong start to the season with Bournemouth.

Carragher cited Andy Robertson’s poor form as a major reason why a bid for Kerkez should be tabled in January rather than next summer.

Liverpool could have competition for the defender

Kerkez has attracted the attention of other teams, with both Manchester United and Chelsea having been credited with an interest in the defender previously.

United were looking at the Hungarian prior to Ruben Amorim’s appointment as manager so it remains to be seen whether they are still keeping tabs on him. Chelsea, meanwhile, were mentioned as a potential destination in the summer but they ultimately bought Renato Veiga from FC Basel instead.

In addition to potential competition from other clubs, Bournemouth’s price tag is expected to be pretty steep. Although the Cherries signed the left-back for £15m last year, they may demand a fee in excess of £40m now. It is not known whether Liverpool would be willing to pay that much for him.
