Liverpool have announced the signing of Bournemouth and Hungary left-back Milos Kerkez for a transfer fee of £40m.
Kerkez will come into Arne Slot’s side and compete for the left-back spot with Andy Robertson, who has himself been linked with a move to Atletico Madrid. The 21-year-old has been a target for the Reds for several weeks, and they have finally got their man.
He was one of the best full-backs in the Premier League last season for a Bournemouth side who overperformed expectations under manager Andoni Iraola.
He made 41 appearances in all competitions, scoring two goals and providing six assists for the Cherries, and is considered more of an attacking full-back, who likes to get forward and put balls into the box. With Jeremie Frimpong signing from Bayer Leverkusen on the other side of defence, Slot has his full-back partnership for the future, and what a partnership it could prove to be.
Liverpool fans have been reacting to the signing as the club announced Kerkez’ arrival with a post on X…

What will happen to Robertson now that Kerkez has signed?
The signing of Kerkez plunges Robertson’s future into even more uncertainty as the Reds also have Kostas Tsimikas who can play at left back.
Robertson at the age of 31 is certainly coming towards the end of his career at Liverpool, especially considering the Kerkez signing. Last season, he made 45 appearances for the Reds, but he was able to record just two assists.
ESPN have reported that Atletico Madrid hold an interest in the left-back, and would like to sign him, however, they do say that they are slowly turning their attention away from the Scotland international, as they are now close to signing 22-year-old Atalanta left-back Matteo Ruggeri.
So, as things stand, Robertson looks to be staying at Anfield, but it may well be the case that he has a much more reduced role next season instead.
