Liverpool retain an interest in RB Leipzig defender Mohamed Simakan but they have not made a concerted effort to sign him, according to Sky Germany reporter Philipp Heinze.
Writing on his X account, the journalist said the Reds’ pursuit of the Frenchman has “not advanced”, despite the player being on their shortlist of targets:
Once again confirmed: Liverpool FC continue to have interest in Leipzig’s defender Mo Simakan. It is not advanced or concrete, but Simakan is still on Liverpool’s list. Juventus also keeping an eye on the Frenchman. π«π·π

A move for the Leipzig star may depend on Gomez leaving
Another journalist, The Athletic‘s David Ornstein, has suggested that signing a new centre-back is dependent on both Sepp van den Berg AND Joe Gomez being sold before the transfer window closes.
While van den Berg is set to seal a Β£25m move to Brentford, things are less certain with Gomez. He does have plenty of suitors, including Aston Villa, West Ham, Chelsea and Newcastle, but no formal bids have been received for the England international.
Liverpool would be getting a like-for-like replacement if they sign Simakan
Similar to Gomez, the 24-year-old is equally comfortable playing at right-back or centre-half. Last season, he was deployed 26 times in the middle of defence and 15 times on the right flank.
Simakan does have a release clause of β¬70m (Β£59m) but it is unlikely that Leipzig will hold out for that much if Arne Slot’s side make an approach.
