Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has revealed that the Reds have yet to reach an agreement with Moises Caicedo over a move to Anfield.

The Reds sensationally outbid Chelsea overnight, agreeing to pay a club record £110m for the Ecuadorian international but, when asked about the transfer in his pre-match press conference on Friday morning, Klopp said:

“I can confirm that the deal with the club is agreed, whatever that means exactly in the end because we need an agreement with the player. We will see.”

It is believed that Klopp will speak to Caicedo today in order to convince him. Up until now, the 21-year-old has had his heart set on a move to Chelsea, and it remains to be seen whether Klopp can change his mind.

Reports had suggested that a medical could even take place on Friday but these claims are clearly premature, with the club denying that story at the press conference.

Why are Liverpool paying so much for Caicedo?

Considering the Reds pulled out of a deal to sign Jude Bellingham from Borussia Dortmund earlier this summer due to the cost of the transfer, it is very surprising to see the Merseysiders now willing to pay a similar fee for another player.

Asked about what prompted the U-turn, Klopp claimed that the departures of both captain Jordan Henderson and Fabinho had changed the club’s thinking.

Can the Reds afford to sign anyone else if they get Caicedo?

Klopp emphasised that Liverpool are stretching themselves to the limit by shelling out so much on the Ecuadorian so fans should expect the player to be the last signing of the summer transfer window if he agrees to the move.

The Reds were reportedly hoping to recruit a centre-back and, potentially, another midfielder but Klopp will have to make do with what he has.
