Liverpool could be about to enter into another battle with Chelsea for a new signing, according to journalist Ben Jacobs.

Writing in his newsletter column for GiveMeSport, Jacobs revealed that both teams hold a “concrete interest” in Aston Villa forward Morgan Rogers.

Considering the position that Rogers plays, fans on X are split on whether the Reds should pursue the player this summer:

Liverpool need more goals and assists up front

Some supporters have assumed that Rogers would be used as a no.10, but it should be pointed out that the 23-year-old has played nearly as many games as a winger for Villa.

The main goal this summer will be to increase the club’s output in the final third. Since the start of last campaign, Rogers has contributed 47 goals and assists in all competitions. Not many can better that figure. Buy Liverpool merchandise from the Adidas store here.

Rogers won’t be available on the cheap

Jacobs believes Villa won’t sell for less than £80m, but the fact that the England international signed a new contract last year means that his asking price could be a lot higher.

There is a chance that Unai Emery’s team may only offload Rogers if they receive an offer well in excess of £100m. That could put off the Reds from making an official approach.
