REPORT: Liverpool Want £43m-Rated England Star To Upgrade On Chiesa But Will Have To Battle Man Utd And Man City

Liverpool reportedly want to sign Aston Villa attacker Morgan Rogers this summer to upgrade their options in midfield.

The Reds have the Premier League title all but wrapped up, and have secured their attacking talisman Mo Salah for the future with a new contract, however, they still have a decision to make regarding Federico Chiesa.

The Italian joined at Anfield in the summer and has since made just four Premier League appearances. Liverpool could decide to move on from him at the end of the season.

If they do, they will need to find an upgrade, and according to Empire of the Kop, that player is Aston Villa star Morgan Rogers.

Rogers is having a career season for Villa this year, which has culminated in him earning his first caps for the England national team. He’s made 47 appearances for Unai Emery’s side in all competitions, scoring 14 goals and providing 12 assists.

The report says that Liverpool have added the 22-year-old to their shortlist of top priorities this summer and that they are preparing to make a ‘serious offer’ to Villa in order to try and get Rodgers to come to Anfield. His market value is estimated to be around £43m, however, it is not yet understood whether Villa would accept that fee from Premier League rivals.

Liverpool face Premier League competition to sign Rogers

The Reds aren’t the only PL side that want to sign Rogers this summer, as the report also states that both Manchester clubs are keen on the midfielder.

Man City would like to add him as a long-term replacement for Kevin De Bruyne, after it was announced last week that the Belgian would leave the Etihad in the summer.

Whereas, Man United are looking for players to play in one of the two number 10 roles behind the striker, something that Rogers is more than capable of.

The Villa star plays in Emery’s system as a wide attacking midfielder, but he can also play as an out and out winger or a central midfielder, making him one of the most versatile English players in the Premier League this season.
