Genoa have received a bid in the region of €25m (£21m) for reported Liverpool transfer target Morten Frendrup, according to Tuttomercatweb.com.
The Italian website claims that the Dane is being pursued by both the Reds and Aston Villa, but they do not single out the club that made the offer.
It is believed Frendrup has been the subject of “many” enquiries from England this summer, “above all” from Liverpool and the Villa.
However, it is not clear if the formal proposal came from one of these two sides or another Premier League team.
Liverpool are interested in recruiting a No.6
The Reds’s recruitment department are said to have looked at strengthening Arne Slot’s options in the middle of the park. A holding midfielder is one of three positions (along with centre-back and winger) that sporting director Richard Hughes has prioritised.
A move for Frendrup does make a lot of sense. He is still only 23 years of age and Jacek Kulig, a writer for FootballTalentScout.net, said there are similarities in his game to ex-Chelsea player N’Golo Kante:
“Frendrup reminds me of N’Golo Kante. Big comparison, I know, but they share some of the same traits. They are both not the biggest and most intimidating midfielders, but they are fast, great at reading the game, and they intercept almost everything. Both players are also good dribblers of the ball.”
A replacement may be needed for Endo
Wataru Endo put in a pretty woeful performance in the 1-0 friendly win over Real Betis last week and there is already speculation that the Japanese international is deemed surplus to requirements by Slot.
A bid was rejected from Marseille earlier in the transfer window for the 31-year-old but there is a possibility that he could be let go before August 30th. His departure would undoubtedly increase the need for another No.6.
