Liverpool and Chelsea have “sent their scouts” to watch Fiorentina forward Nico Gonzalez on a number of occasions, according to Calciomercato.com.
The Italian website claims that the Argentinian international’s recent form is attracting interest from teams in the Premier League.
Gonzalez has scored 7 times and contributed 2 assists in all competitions for Fiorentina this season, helping the Viola to 5th position in the Serie A table.
If the Reds or their Premier League rivals do attempt to make a move for the 25-year-old, he won’t be available on the cheap.
Calciomercato report that Fiorentina class Gonzalez as a “prized” asset and he won’t be sold for less than €55m (£48m) to €60m (£52m). They are believed to have rejected a €43m (£37.5m) offer from Brentford back in the summer transfer window.
A potential replacement for Salah?
The Argentine is left-footed and he does play most of his football on the right wing, which suggests that Liverpool may be keeping an eye on him as they consider successors for Mo Salah.
As the Egyptian international will have just a year left on his contract in the summer, a replacement may need to be found, especially with clubs from Saudi Arabia circling.
Does Gonzalez have the goal record to match the Liverpool legend?
While the Argentine has been prolific this season, he hasn’t hit the back of the net on a regular basis in past seasons. In his professional career, the winger has averaged a goal every 3.5 games.
That is not a bad return but, with the Reds seeking an elite performer, Gonzalez might not make the grade. If the forward continues to rack up goals in Italy, though, he is one to keep an eye on.
