REPORT: Liverpool Have ‘Officially Expressed Their Interest’ In £50M Rated Forward

Liverpool have contacted the agents of Eintracht Frankfurt forward Omar Marmoush, according to Sport Bild.

The German magazine claims that the Reds have “officially expressed their interest” in the Egyptian, but they have yet to make a decision on whether to table a formal bid.

It is believed that Marmoush will only be targeted if it becomes clear that Mo Salah won’t sign a contract extension.

The 32-year-old’s current deal is set to expire at the end of the season and he will be able to discuss a move to other clubs within the next two months.

Marmoush has been in excellent form for Frankfurt

The striker has already hit double figures for goals this campaign, and he is competing alongside Bayern Munich’s Harry Kane to be the Bundesliga top scorer.

This is not simply a purple patch either. Marmoush also hit the back of the net 17 times in all competitions last campaign.

Liverpool are not the only Premier League club watching the forward

It was reported last week that there are several teams keeping close tabs on Marmoush. Manchester United, Chelsea, Arsenal and Newcastle are said to be among his potential suitors, with AC Milan and Atletico Madrid having been credited with an interest too.

Frankfurt are under no pressure to sell the 25-year-old but there are suggestions that he could be let go next summer if a club is prepared to pay around £50m.

With Salah’s future still uncertain, you would expect that the Reds will continue to watch Marmoush for the remainder of the campaign.

While the Egyptian would not be a like-for-like replacement for his fellow countryman, his form for Frankfurt does indicate that he could make up for the goals lost through Salah’s departure.
