“A Bit Of A Risk” Journalist Questions Why Klopp Wants World Cup Winner After Liverpool Make Transfer Enquiry

Benjamin Pavard’s poor mentality should concern Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp, according to journalist Jonathan Johnson.

The Reds have enquired about the Bayern Munich defender’s availability, along with Manchester United and a number of other teams, but Johnson claims the World Cup winner’s attitude could make him a risky signing:

“When interested clubs look at him beyond what he brings on the pitch and his his technical profile, they’ll look at his mentality and some clubs will be put off. Liverpool and Manchester United… I do think that the likes of Klopp and ten Hag will probably see Pavard as a bit of a risk.”

You would hope that Klopp and Liverpool’s recruitment team have done some background checks before pursuing Pavard. Having a bad egg in the dressing room is one way to destroy morale so you would expect that they have received assurances on this front before they step up their plans to sign the France international.

Pavard is set for a transfer this summer

Multiple reports in the German media have confirmed that Pavard will leave Bayern Munich before the next transfer window closes in August.

The 27-year-old has twelve months left on his contract at the Allianz Arena and Bayern are not prepared to let the defender leave on a free transfer next year.

Pavard’s availability does present Liverpool with an opportunity of signing a proven star in the prime of his career for a relatively small transfer fee.

The fact that he can also play in two positions, right-back and centre-half, also makes him a very handy player to have in the squad.

Of course, there will be other suitors for his signature, and there are serious questions about his mentality, so we shall see if he does end up making the move to Anfield in the coming weeks.
