Liverpool are interested in Feyenoord midfielder Quinten Timber, according to CaughtOffside.com.
The website claims the Reds have shortlisted several players as they seek to strengthen their midfield and the Dutchman (who is the brother of Arsenal defender Jurrien) is one of the options being looked at.
It is believed that, as Timber is “someone [Arne] Slot knows well”, it would make sense to pursue the 23-year-old, who had a strong season for Feyenoord.
In 44 appearances, he scored 8 goals and provided 11 assists as Slot’s side finished behind PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie.
Timber can play multiple positions
While the Netherlands international played the majority of his matches as a no.8 last campaign, he can also be deployed as a holding midfielder or in more advanced areas.
That adaptability would hold Timber in good stead if he does make the switch to Anfield. You do feel, though, that if Liverpool do go into the market this summer, they will target a recognised no.6.
With Dominik Szoboszlai, Alexis Mac Allister, Curtis Jones, Harvey Elliott and Ryan Gravenberch all available to Slot, you can’t see Timber really being needed.
Who are Liverpool more likely to sign?
In terms of midfielders, the Reds have been linked with the likes of Joao Neves and Alan Varela, but neither player is available on the cheap. Benfica want £101.5m for Neves while Porto are demanding £59m for Varela.
It does seem like the club are prioritising other areas of the pitch. They are trying to sign Leny Yoro from Lille, who many believe to be one of the best young centre-backs in Europe.
Recruiting another winger is also said to be high on the agenda, with the likes of Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, PSV’s Johan Bakayoko and Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville having been scouted.
