Liverpool have entered the race to sign Real Madrid forward Rodrygo, according to reports.
Arsenal and Manchester City have been linked with the Brazilian international over the past week or so.
However, TBRFootball claim that the Reds have also made “contact” with Rodrygo’s representatives ahead of a potential bid this summer.
All three teams are believed to have enquired about the 24-year-old’s availability, but the player is still weighing up his options.
Xabi Alonso may have a big say in Rodrygo’s future
It looks like the Brazilian won’t make a final decision on leaving the Bernabeu until a new manager is installed. Former Liverpool player Xabi Alonso is thought to be the favourite to replace Carlo Ancelotti.
Rodrygo is reportedly minded to stay at Real until he finds out whether he features prominently in the new regime. Otherwise, he could be tempted by a switch to the Premier League. TBRFootball say that Liverpool are being given encouragement that he would be keen on moving to England.
Liverpool may have to match their transfer record
Rodrygo’s asking price is said to be €100m (£85m), which is the exact same figure that the Merseysiders paid Benfica for Darwin Nunez in the summer of 2022.
It is believed that Arne Slot’s side are open to offloading the Uruguayan international, with a move to Saudi Arabia on the cards.
Some of the proceeds from Nunez’s sale could, therefore, be used to bring in his replacement. Rodrygo is a different type of player. He prefers to play out wide rather than through the middle but he would add more pace and unpredictability to the Reds’ attack.
There are question marks about his goal record (he has averaged a goal every 4 games during his time in Spain), so that would have to be factored into the equation before Liverpool decided to splash the cash on him.
