Liverpool could sign a defender and another forward before the transfer window closes, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.
The Reds’ spending for the summer will exceed £250m when Hugo Ekitike’s move from Eintracht Frankfurt is made official. However, when asked by GiveMeSport if it is likely Arne Slot’s side could bring in more additions, Romano replied:
“It’s a possibility [signing a forward and a defender], yes. It will also depend on funds and opportunities, but it’s possible.”
Any move for a forward is expected to depend on the future of Luis Diaz, while recruiting a centre-back has been under consideration since the departure of Jarell Quansah to Bayer Leverkusen.
Who could be the two signings?
Another respected journalist, David Ornstein, confirmed earlier this week that Liverpool retain an interest in Crystal Palace centre-half Marc Guehi.
It is believed that the Eagles have informed the England international that they will look to sell him before the transfer deadline on September 1st. However, the Reds are unlikely to make a bid for him unless his asking price drops to £30m.
Real Madrid’s Rodrygo is also thought to be on the club’s radar, but the Brazilian could cost upwards of €100m (£87m,) and he hasn’t decided whether he wants to leave the Bernabeu yet.
Liverpool are still waiting on a bid for Diaz
Any approach for a forward will probably depend on whether the Merseysiders do offload Luis Diaz to Bayern Munich. The Bundesliga champions have already had a bid worth €67.5m turned down for the Colombian.
They are expected to return with another offer which could reach €80m (£69m) but there is a good chance that this proposal will be rejected too.
