Romano Claims Liverpool Are “Really Interested” In “Electric” Talent Who Has A Release Clause In His Contract

Liverpool are “really interested” in signing Celta Vigo attacking midfielder Gabri Veiga, according to transfer expert Fabrizio Romano.

The Italian journalist claims that the Reds have recently held talks with the Spaniard’s entourage as they weigh up a potential move for the player:

“This week Liverpool had some conversations with people close to Gabri Veiga. He’s more of a quality player, but he’s an electric player, I really like him, he’s one of the best talents in the world.”

“Liverpool are one of the most interested clubs in this player, we had reports of a done deal with Newcastle, that is not the case at all, Liverpool are really interested in Gabri Veiga. This is a big opportunity for Liverpool and they are thinking about that, is the player worth the money? Is this what we need?”

There are a number of teams interested in Veiga

As Romano says, Newcastle have been heavily linked with the 21-year-old, as have the likes of Manchester City and Chelsea in recent weeks.

Clubs across Europe are pursuing Veiga, not only because of his undoubted talent, but due to the fact that the midfielder has a €40m (£34m) release clause.

Will Liverpool make a formal offer?

The Reds do seem to have doubts about signing Veiga, and the main reason for that is because he is very much a no.10.  With the Merseyside club’s new system, there is room to include such a player but, as we have seem with Fabio Carvalho, manager Jurgen Klopp has struggled to incorporate a young playmaker when using a 4-3-3 formation.

For that reason, you do wonder whether Veiga would be the right fit for Liverpool. At this stage, you would say the chances of a formal bid for the Spanish Under 21 international are quite low, but that could still change.
