Liverpool and Manchester City are both fans of Torino midfielder Samuele Ricci, according to reports in Italy.
The 23-year-old has been identified by the two clubs as their main alternative if they can’t land Real Sociedad’s Martin Zubimendi next month, with Sportmediaset claiming that he could be available for around €35m (£30m).
Ricci has turned heads with his performances for Torino this season but President Urbano Cairo had spoken out to say that he won’t consider offers for the player during the January transfer window.
However, Sportmediaset report that, if the Italian international does not sign a new contract, El Toro will be forced into selling him sooner rather than later. His current deal expires at the end of next season.
What do Liverpool fans need to know about Ricci?
The midfielder came through Empoli’s academy before making his senior debut against Cittadella during a 1-0 win in September 2019.
Two and a half years later, Torino signed Ricci on an initial loan deal before he secured a permanent switch at the end of the 2021/22 season.
The same summer, the Italian was given his first cap by his country at senior level, coming on for the second half during a friendly game against Albania. He has played 5 more times for Italy since then.
Zubimendi could move in January
While Ricci is an option for the Reds, the club do still have a chance of securing their first-choice target next month.
The BBC revealed earlier this week that Zubimendi is open to leaving Real Sociedad, and that could lead to a scramble for his signature, with Slot’s team, City and Arsenal all likely to be involved.
A move for Ricci may only happen if the Merseysiders lose out on Zubimendi once again.
