Liverpool could make a move for Real Sociedad winger Takefusa Kubo before the transfer window closes, according to journalist Massimo Pavan.
Writing for TuttoJuve.com, Pavan said that the Reds have “revived their interest” in the 23-year-old, who was linked with a switch to Anfield earlier in the summer.
Reports in the Japanese media had originally mentioned Arne Slot’s side as potential suitors for Kubo, with it being claimed that they could trigger the release clause in the player’s contract.
The forward’s buyout fee is said to be €60m (£51m); the exact same amount as his teammate Martin Zubimendi.
What do Liverpool fans need to know about Kubo?
The Japanese international is a left-footed right-winger so he would be brought in as a potential replacement for Mo Salah. The Egyptian’s contract expires at the end of the season.
Kubo is certainly not as prolific in front of goal, having scored just 7 in all competitions for Real Sociedad last season. However, he is a very difficult player to defend against, with quick feet and a low centre of gravity.
What is the latest on Salah’s future?
When asked whether the club had entered contract negotiations with Trent Alexander-Arnold, Virgil van Dijk or Salah in his pre-match press conference on Friday, Slot gave very little away:
“I don’t think this is the place to talk about contracts but I can assure you they are in the squad tomorrow!”
Salah has been heavily linked with a move to Saudi Arabia over the past twelve months, with it being reported last September that Al-Ittihad had a £150m offer turned down by Liverpool.
Things have gone quiet since then but it has been assumed that, if the 32-year-old doesn’t sign a contract extension, he could leave for the Middle East on a free transfer.
