Real Madrid are reportedly stepping up their interest in Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold due to their current injury situation.
The La Liga giants currently have concerns over their full-backs as both Dani Carvajal and Eder Militao, who can also play right-back, are injured. Their solution involves trying to sign Trent Alexander-Arnold in January rather than the summer.
The Liverpool defender has been linked to Real Madrid over a summer move because his contract expires in June 2025, however, the Spanish side may now try to land him in January.
According to Spanish outlet Marca via TeamTalk, Madrid could be prepared to offer midfielder Aurelien Tchouameni as a part-exchange for Alexander-Arnold as the Frenchman has become out-of-favour in Carlo Ancelotti’s team.
The report suggests that Real Madrid could offer Tchouameni alongside £21m in order to get Trent Alexander-Arnold and that there is belief at the Bernabeu that Liverpool will be prepared to accept that offer as they remain yet to extend the England internationals contract.
However, the Reds may have to decide on the offer quickly as Tchouameni has also peaked the interest of Premier League rivals Chelsea who have wanted to sign him since before the summer.
Reports emerged in the summer that talks between Trent and Liverpool had stalled regarding a new contract which is what initially sparked reports that Real Madrid were interested in the 26-year-old.
Liverpool at risk of losing key trio including Trent Alexander-Arnold
Arne Slot will be keen to accelerate contract talks with several Liverpool players as Trent Alexander-Arnold isn’t the only Reds’ star that could be on his way out this season.
Centre-back Virgil Van Dijk’s contract is also expiring at the end of the season and no indication has yet emerged as to whether the Reds will extend the 33-year-old’s deal as he has already featured in the top scoring-FPL team of the season after yet another great start to the season.
The league leaders also have star attacker Mo Salah under contract until June which is when the winger could leave for free and he has not yet indicated that he is keen to remain at Anfield beyond this season amid reports that he could move to the Saudi Pro League.
Salah has been one of the best in the Premier League so far this season, scoring eight goals and six assists. Arne Slot will be keen to keep hold of all three players if he can afford to do so.
