Liverpool Set To Secure Next Summer Signing As Insider Reveals That They Have “Won The Race” For Teenager

Liverpool have “won the race” for Leicester City midfielder Trey Nyoni, according to the Secret Scout.

The insider, who is usually very reliable when it comes to youth recruitment, claims that the England Under 16 international will be joining the Reds “soon” after being pursued by the Merseyside club for many months:

Despite only being 16 years of age, Nyoni was given his debut for Leicester’s Under 18s last season, making his first appearance in a heavy 6-1 home defeat to Southampton back in October.

However, the teenager quickly adapted to playing at that level, going on to score his first goal a couple of games later in a 4-2 victory over Norwich City, before scoring his second in a 2-0 win against Brighton in March.

Nyoni also made a couple of appearances for Leicester in the FA Youth Cup, although he could do nothing to prevent the Foxes from being knocked out by Sheffield Wednesday in the fourth round.

The midfielder impressed to such an extent that he was even named on the bench for a Premier League 2 fixture against Wolves earlier this year. He has, though, not made an appearance for the Under 21s so far.

His adaptability is one of his key strengths

Although ostensibly a central midfielder, Nyoni was deployed as a striker, a left winger and a number 10 at times for Leicester Under 18s last campaign.

It will be interesting to see how he is deployed by Liverpool, where he will be working with Under 18s manager Marc Bridge-Wilkinson and, potentially, Under 21s head coach Barry Lewtas in the not-too-distant future.
