“He’s One I Would Keep An Eye On” – Journalist Claims Liverpool Are Still Keen On Purchasing 151 Goal Striker

Liverpool are still in contention to sign Napoli striker Victor Osimhen, according to reports.

The Nigerian international only has offers on the table from Saudi Pro League side Al-Hilal and Galatasaray at the moment but journalist Graeme Bailey believes the Reds and other Premier League teams may yet submit bids:

“Don’t rule Liverpool out of the Osimhen situation. Manchester United still like him, you know. Newcastle, if Isak comes to a head, don’t rule them out.”

“Osimhen, we’re still we only just got to start July. He’s one I would keep an eye on as well for the Premier League. Push is going to come to shove soon but the Premier League clubs have got the bigger pockets with these European teams.”

Liverpool will be reluctant to meet Osimhen’s asking price

Despite the fact that the forward has less than a year left on his contract, Napoli are still holding out for his €75m (£65m) release clause. That is a sizeable sum to pay for someone who will be available on a free transfer next year.

Of course, there is always a possibility of a swap deal involving Darwin Nunez. Napoli are interested in the Uruguayan but they have yet to find an agreement with Liverpool over the transfer fee.

Many supporters would agree that Osimhen (who has scored 151 goals in his senior career) would be an upgrade on Nunez, but there is no sign currently that a player exchange is being seriously considered.

Arne Slot’s side do have other striker targets. Newcastle’s Alexander Isak and Eintracht Frankfurt’s Hugo Ekitike are on the Merseyside club’s radar, but their respective price tags are deemed to be too high at the moment.
