Liverpool are interested in signing Sporting Lisbon striker Viktor Gyokeres, according to reports in the Portuguese media.

The Correio da Manha claim that the Swedish international, who scored 54 goals last season, is on the “shortlist” of targets that the Reds are considering as they seek a replacement for Darwin Nunez.

There has been a mixed reaction to the reports on X. Some supporters believe Gyokeres would be a good addition to the squad, while others have questioned the reliability of the source:

Journalist Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Gyokeres has made a move to the Emirates a priority, having also been linked with Manchester United.

However, Mikel Arteta’s side have yet to make a decision on whether they will pursue the 27-year-old or RB Leipzig’s Benjamin Sesko.

Both forwards are expected to cost a similar amount, with a rumoured price tag of around €80m (£68m).

It is believed that the Uruguayan has given the green light to joining Napoli but there are doubts over whether the Serie A champions will be able to agree a fee with the Merseysiders.
