Liverpool are in pursuit of West Ham United star Mohammed Kudus this summer as they look for a long-term replacement for Mo Salah.
They are in a favorable position to land the attacker with an £85m release clause in his contract at West Ham.
Liverpool has been looking for a long-term Mo Salah replacement since the start of the transfer window, with names such as Newcastle’s Anthony Gordon, Takefusa Kubo, and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze linked.
According to the Mirror, Arne Slot’s side has produced a ‘secret weapon’ in the chase for Kudus as they have brought in former Everton star Johnny Heitinga to become Slot’s assistant coach.
The 40-year-old spent last season working with Kudus at West Ham and had previously worked with him when the attacker was playing for Ajax between 2020 and 2023.
Liverpool may be able to tempt Kudus away from the London Stadium as the coach who has overseen his development into one of the most exciting attackers in the Premier League is now at Anfield.
As reported in the Mirror, Kudus said, “He is a top trainer, and I really appreciated his efforts to make the players better at the time. When he [Heitinga] took over for the rest of the season, he made an immediate impact. It got better.
” Personally, I would have loved to work with him longer.”
Mohammed Kudus had a strong season for West Ham
It is no surprise that Liverpool is in pursuit of Kudus as the attacker had a fantastic season for the Hammers last year. The 23-year-old scored eight goals and recorded six assists, becoming one of David Moyes’ key players.
Due to his form, West Ham have made it clear that they want to hold onto the attacker, however, if the likes of Liverpool pay his release clause, then there is likely nothing that the Hammers can do.
Liverpool face competition to sign Kudus
Liverpool do find themselves in the driving seat for Kudus, however, there has also been significant interest from Saudi Arabia for the Ghanaian.
According to TeamTalk, multiple teams in the Saudi Pro League are looking to sign Kudus alongside his West Ham teammate Lucas Paqueta.
