“All Of These Clubs Are Calling”- Romano Says Liverpool, Arsenal, Chelsea and United Are Competing To Secure £63M Deal

Liverpool are one of four Premier League clubs competing to sign RB Leipzig forward Xavi Simons, according to journalist Fabrizio Romano.

Speaking on his YouTube channel, Romano said the Reds are among the teams that have called the Dutchman’s club to register their interest if he is sold at the end of the season.

“There are movements and my understanding is that for something around let’s say 70 to 75 million Euros [£58-£63m], there is a chance to strike a deal for Xavi Simons.”

“The Premier League is the most concrete possibility. What we can mention is that Premier League clubs were interested one year ago.”

“Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester United, also Liverpool are well informed on the situation. All of these clubs are calling to be informed.”

Leipzig are looking to make a quick profit on Simons

The Netherlands international only moved to his current team on a permanent basis in January. He reportedly cost €50m (£42m) up front with another €30m (£25m) in add-ons.

It is believed that Simons’ contract with Leipzig only runs until 2027, which suggests that the Bundesliga side will look to offload him this summer. Otherwise, they would see his value depreciate substantially over the next 12 to 18 months.

Where would he play for Liverpool?

Simons is a very versatile player. Although he is ostensibly a No.10, he has played as a false 9 and on the wing during the early stages of his career.

Some have tipped the 21-year-old to play a similar role to what Roberto Firmino once did for the Reds, although he doesn’t really have the sort of presence required to lead the line. He may be better suited for a role on the wing, but that would suggest the potential departure of either Luis Diaz or even Mo Salah.
