Liverpool target Xavi Simons won’t be playing in the Premier League next season, according to TBR Football.
The Reds, Arsenal, Chelsea, Manchester City and Manchester United have all reportedly been keeping tabs on the Netherlands international’s situation after he returned to PSG following his loan spell at RB Leipzig.
However, Simons is believed to have informed English clubs of the “disappointing news” that he wants to return to Germany next season.
Bayern Munich are currently favourites to secure his signature, with their sporting director Max Eberl having signed him for Leipzig last summer.
Any final decision, though, is only expected to be made after Simons’ participation in the European Championships comes to an end.
Why were Liverpool interested in Simons?
The £51m-rated Dutchman can play right across the front three, having played as a left winger, a right winger, a no.10 and as a false nine for Leipzig last campaign.
At 21, Simons is also the right age for the Reds, who like to snap up talent before they hit their peak years. For now, though, it seems like a move to Anfield is not on the cards.
Will the club pursue another forward this summer?
Liverpool did hold talks about signing Anthony Gordon from Newcastle before the end of last month but an agreement could not be reached, with suggestions that the Magpies wanted Jarell Quansah in part exchange.
Other names have also been linked, including PSV Eindhoven’s Johan Bakayoko, Athletic Bilbao’s Nico Williams, Leeds’ Crysencio Summerville and Crystal Palace’s Eberechi Eze, but the club have yet to formalise their interest in any of these players.
It is now more than likely that manager Arne Slot will start preseason without any new signings coming in through the door of the AXA Training Centre.
