Liverpool would have been expecting to head into the game against Huddersfield as firm favourites, and while many would still back the Reds to get a win, the injury setbacks during the international break will make things a lot harder.
Sadio Mane has undergone minor surgery after breaking his left thumb whilst away on international duty with Senegal. Hand injuries don’t usually keep footballers from playing, but there’s no guarantee he will start at the John Smiths’ Stadium tomorrow evening.
Virgil van Dijk could be in contention. The Dutchman did not play for the Netherlands in their friendly against Belgium on Tuesday, and it will give him more time to recover as he manages bruised ribs.
The fitness of Mo Salah is less clear. The Egyptian suffered a muscle problem playing for his country against Swaziland last week. He did not play in the return game and made the trip back to Liverpool for treatment. However, he has taken part in training this week and could still play against the Terriers.
Naby Keita has been ruled out for the Huddersfield game with a hamstring injury he picked up whilst away with Guinea, but Adam Lallana (groin) and James Milner (hamstring) could both feature tomorrow.
For the Terriers, Terence Kongolo (hamstring) and Tommy Smith (groin) have been ruled out by manager David Wagner while Danny Williams and Ramadan Sobhi are back in training but are not fit enough to play at the weekend.
They will, however, welcome back Philip Billing (ankle) and Isaac Mbenza (knee) to the first team squad.
