Liverpool are interested in signing Ajax centre-back Perr Schuurs, according to reports in the Italian media. The Reds are keen to strengthen their centre-back options after losing both Virgil van Dijk and Joe Gomez to long term injuries and they have identified the 20-year-old as a potential candidate.
The Premier League champions were suitably impressed by the Dutchman’s performance during their 1-0 win against Ajax in the Champions League group game last month and they could follow up their interest with an offer for the player.
Liverpool won’t be the only team after Schuurs, though, with AC Milan and Inter Milan also having looked at the defender in recent weeks. The player’s contract expires in 2022 and it is believed the two Serie A clubs may consider making bids next summer if he doesn’t sign a new deal by then.
Due to the lack of centre-backs, the Reds may well look to push ahead with an offer for him in January. Ajax will reportedly ask for a fee in the region of €30m (£27m), which could even be reduced due to the financial impact of the global health crisis.
