Liverpool sporting director Michael Edwards and his recruitment team are targeting a move for Arsenal forward Gabriel Martinelli, according to the Football Insider.
The website reports that the Reds have been seriously impressed by the Brazilian since he joined the Gunners in the summer, and they are continuing to monitor the player’s progress.
Whether that means Liverpool will consider bidding for Martinelli at the end of the season, it remains to be seen. The 18-year-old only joined Arsenal from Ituano for £7m in July, but he has already firmly established himself in the first team.
The teenager has bagged himself 10 goals in 21 appearances since his switch to the Emirates, including an impressive solo effort in the 2-2 draw against Chelsea on Tuesday night.
Reports this morning suggest, though, that Arsenal are already preparing to offer Martinelli a new contract, and if the Brazilian does sign on to new terms, the Reds’ will likely cool their interest in the player.
