Liverpool are willing to spend “close to” €100m (£87m) on Newcastle midfielder Bruno Guimaraes, according to AS.
The Spanish newspaper claims that Reds boss Jurgen Klopp sees the Brazilian international as the “perfect option” to strengthen the club’s midfield after losing out on Jude Bellingham.
Guimaraes is also being pursued by Paris Saint-Germain and Barcelona but, with Newcastle keen to keep hold of the player, the cost of the deal could spiral.
From the looks of things, Liverpool may have to break their transfer record, which currently stands at £85m, in order to secure the 25-year-old’s signature.
There is a chance that won’t even be enough. Newcastle could be in the Champions League next season, while Klopp’s side may miss out on Europe’s top competition and, in that scenario, you can’t see Guimaraes swapping St James’ Park for Anfield. Fans should probably take this story with a large pinch of salt.
