Liverpool Winger Refutes Claims That His Wage Demands Scuppered £2.9m Move
Liverpool winger Lazar Markovic has denied reports that he rejected a move to Anderlecht due to the failure to agree personal terms.
Taking to Twitter yesterday, the Serbian thanked the Belgian club for their attempts to sign him but he denied that the transfer collapsed because of his wage demands:

The Liverpool Echo reported that the Reds had agreed a £2.9million fee to sell Markovic to Anderlecht, but the 24-year-old rejected a three-year deal to seal a move to the Jupiler Pro League side.
The club’s head coach Hein Vanhaezebrouck then all but confirmed that this was the case when he spoke about the midfielder yesterday:
“Our president and sports director did everything to convince Markovic. They waited until Liverpool lowered the price. They almost did a crazy effort for the player, but it wasn’t enough. It’s his own fault that the deal fell through.”
Markovic’s contract at Anfield expires in the summer, and he is now expected to leave the club for nothing. The wide man signed from Benfica for £20m four years ago, but he has spent most of his time out on loan with spells at Fenerbahce, Sporting Lisbon, Hull City and Anderlecht.
