Liverpool youngster up for prestigious Golden Boy award

Liverpool youngster Trent Alexander-Arnold has been included in the 40-man shortlist for the prestigious Golden Boy award.

Established by Italian newspaper Tuttosport in 2003, the award is given to the best young player in Europe under the age of 21.

TAA is nominated for the first time after a terrific breakthrough season with Liverpool in which he helped Jurgen Klopp’s side reach the Champions League final.

But the 19-year-old, whose form last term earned him a spot in Gareth Southgate’s England squad for the World Cup, will face stiff competition if he is to lift the coveted award.

World Cup winner Kylian Mbappe, who won the award last year, is nominated again and is favourite to scoop the prize for a second year running. Borussia Dortmund’s Christian Pulisic, AS Roma’s Justin Kluivert and Real Madrid’s Vinicius Junior are amongst the other most notable nominees.

Two other Premier League players are nominated in the form of Manchester City’s Phil Foden and Everton midfielder Tom Davies.
