Liverpool’s Top 10 Signings Of The Past Decade: Find Out Who We Rated No.1

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool’s track record in the transfer market in recent years has been consistently excellent. With the exception of Loris Karius, manager Jurgen Klopp and sporting director Michael Edwards have hardly put a foot wrong.

Before the pair’s arrival at Anfield, though, the transfer committee had a patchy record under FSG, to say the least, but there were still some notable standout signings.

It’s actually been hard to narrow it down to just ten, to be honest with you, considering the number of top-class players that the Reds have snapped up in recent years.

If you want to find out who we have named in our top ten, and who we rated number one, press the “next page.”

#10 Jordan Henderson

The midfielder has had to endure a lot of criticism over the years but the £16m the Reds shelled out on him in 2011 has been paid back many times over.

Having lifted the Champions League, Henderson will go down as one of the true great Liverpool captains, having amassed 351 appearances for the club so far.

#9 Philippe Coutinho

Although the Brazilian didn’t leave under the best circumstances, he was a bargain at just £8.5m from Inter Milan in 2013.

Coutinho went on to score 54 goals in 201 games fo the Reds before being sold for a huge profit to Barcelona who paid an astonishing £142m for his services.

#8 Alisson Becker

Some questioned the £67m that Liverpool paid for the Brazilian international in 2018, but he has offered an assured presence at the back which the team has been lacking for many years.

Alisson is arguably the best goalkeeper in the world at the moment, playing a key role in the club’s recent success.

#7 James Milner

Having joined on a free transfer from Manchester City, the midfielder’s experience has been invaluable since his arrival at Anfield.

Milner is one of the leaders in the Reds squad, and he is surely one of the best Bosman signings any club has had.

#6 Roberto Firmino

Brendan Rodgers did not know quite what to make of him after his £29m move from Hoffenheim in 2015. However, Jurgen Klopp was able to convert him into a top-class striker.

Firmino’s role in Liverpool’s starting eleven is unique and there is no one in the squad who can replace him.

#5 Luis Suarez

The Uruguayan international had so many memorable moments at Anfield following his £22m move from Ajax in 2011.

Suarez was always a controversial figure but his 82 goals in 133 appearances make him one of the best buys of the decade.

#4 Sadio Mane

Named African Player of the Year, the Senegalese star has certainly proven to be an excellent piece of business after Liverpool paid £34m for him in 2016.

Mane continues to improve as well, with the forward taking home the Premier League golden boot, along with Mo Salah, last campaign.

#3 Virgil van Dijk

The £75m that the Reds paid Southampton for the player in January 2018 now looks like a pittance considering the impact the Dutchman has had on the team’s defence.

Van Dijk’s presence at the back is a cornerstone of the team’s newly found solidity over the past couple of years, helping the club to its sixth Champions League trophy.

#2 Andy Robertson

For £8m from Hull City, the Scotland captain has to be one of the bargains of the century so far. After a slow start to his Anfield career, he then began to rack up some remarkable numbers.

Robertson managed an outstanding 13 assists in all competitions last season, with six more so far this campaign.

#1 Mo Salah

The Egyptian international cost an initial £37m when he joined from Roma in 2017, but he went on to score an incredible 44 goals in 52 appearances during his first season at the club.

Salah then won his second successive Premier League golden boot last season, as well as scoring a crucial penalty in Liverpool’s Champions League triumph in May.
