Lyon block Fekir’s move to Liverpool until after the World Cup?

Liverpool’s move for Nabil Fekir could be put on hold until after the World Cup by his current club Lyon, who reportedly hope the fee they can command for the Frenchman will increase after the tournament.

Fekir is one of the most sought after stars this summer and is nailed on to leave Lyon at some point during the transfer window. He has been heavily linked with a move to Liverpool, who hope to sign the Frenchman as a replacement for Philippe Coutinho, who joined Barcelona in January.

The Frenchman is said to be keen on a move to Anfield, a deal which could cost Klopp’s side around £55m. However, recent reports claim that Lyon chairman Jean-Michel Aulas is hoping to hold onto his prized asset until after the World Cup, as a good performance in the tournament could see his asking price increased.

The Daily Mirror’s northern football correspondent David Maddock took to Twitter to explain the latest developments.

“Fekir did NOT travel to Liverpool this weekend,” he tweeted.

“No deal imminent. He has told Lyon he wants to go, but discussions still in formative stages.

“French club president Jean-Michel Aulas keen to wait until after World Cup in hope of fee increase. Fekir will leave and wants @LFC.”

Liverpool have already been active in this summer’s transfer window, completing a deal for Brazilian midfielder Fabinho, and should Fekir sign he would also be joined by Naby Keita.
