Liverpool forward Sadio Mane believes the Reds will need a perfect finish to the season if they are to beat Manchester City to the Premier League title.

The Merseyside club edged past Tottenham on Sunday to return to the top of the table, and the Senegalese international thinks the win gives the squad belief that they can go all the way:

“That [belief] is what makes you more motivated and makes everyone say: ‘Let’s go, we can do it’, so I think it’s important. This is a very, very good sign and I think everything is possible, so let’s do it and win it.”

“To be honest I think we need to win all of the games, even if it will not be easy. We still can win every game because we are a good team and we play very well.”

Liverpool’s six games left include Southampton, Chelsea, Cardiff, Huddersfield, Newcastle and Wolves, with the home clash against Maurizio Sarri’s side the hardest left on paper.

Still, getting 18 points will be a hard task considering they have only won games by a fine margin in recent weeks. They struggled to put Fulham to bed in their last away game and were second best for long stretches against Spurs.

Winning whilst not playing well is said to be a sign of champions, and, as Mane says, results rather than performances are more important in the closing stages of the season.
