Marco Asensio responds to Liverpool transfer speculation

Liverpool have been rumoured to be interested in signing Real Madrid and Spain superstar Marco Asesnsio this summer, having reportedly tabled a £150million+ bid for the attacking midfielder.

The Reds are known to be in the market for a Philippe Coutinho replacement, after the Brazilian left for Barcelona in January.

Nabil Fekir’s move to Anfield looks to have hit a stumbling block, and now it seems Jurgen Klopp has turned his attention to Asensio, who is rated as one of the most exciting players in the world at the moment.

The Spanish international, who is at the World Cup in Russia this summer, has revealed he will hold crunch talks with new Real Madrid head coach Julen Lopetegui after the tournament to discuss his future, with it rumoured that he could be open to a move away if he is not promised regular first team action.

Asensio signed a six-year contract last September which included a buyout clause which was set at £442million, but despite failed to a cement a regular place in Zinedine Zidane’s starting line-up throughout the course of the season.

Responding to Liverpool’s reported interest, Asensio said: “Liverpool? When the World Cup is over, we’ll talk about that sort of thing, now I’m focused on selection.

“I’m glad Julen has signed up for Real Madrid, after the World Cup we’ll talk things over with him.”
