Mason Mount Waxes Lyrical About Liverpool Target After Failing To Lay A Glove On Him In Champions League Tie

Chelsea attacking midfielder Mason Mount has praised Thiago Alcantara after facing the Spaniard over two legs in a Champions League last season.

Speaking about Bayern Munich and how he has a lot to learn to reach the highest level of the game, the England international singled out three players, including Thiago, who he just couldn’t handle:

“Bayern have some unbelievable world-class players… Lewandowski, [Joshua] Kimmich and Thiago in midfield, I just couldn’t get near him. They moved the ball around the team so quickly. When you’re up against players like that you’re thinking, ‘How are we going to stop this’?”

Liverpool are believed to be interested in signing Thiago and fans won’t be surprised by Mount’s comments, considering what they saw of the Spanish international as he helped Bayern lift their sixth Champions League trophy last month.

It is thought that the main bone of contention between the Bundesliga side and Liverpool is Thiago’s transfer fee. Bayern want €30m (£27m) for the midfielder but, with the player within the last year of his contract at the Allianz Arena, the Reds are unwilling to pay such a high sum.

With five weeks to go before the transfer window closes, it remains to be seen whether a compromise can be found.
