Melissa Reddy Outlines Liverpool’s New Stance On Signing Timo Werner This Summer

Anfield Stadium

Liverpool have not ended their interest in RB Leipzig forward Timo Werner but they are now reluctant to pay £50m for the 24-year-old, according to the Independent‘s Melissa Reddy.

The usually reliable journalist says that while the Reds were prepared to pay the player’s release clause before the impact of the global health crisis, they have now taken a step back to reassess their options.

Prices in the transfer market are likely to be deflated once the window reopens and it appears Liverpool are unwilling to overspend in order to get Werner.

The Merseyside club have been shrewd investors in recent years, paying below the market values for players like Sadio Mane and Mo Salah.

However, it must be said that by keeping their counsel on Werner, it could give other interested clubs an advantage. The likes of Chelsea, Manchester United and Bayern Munich are also reportedly keen on signing the German international.
