Merson Explains Why He Would Be ‘Shocked’ If City Beat Liverpool

Former Arsenal midfielder Paul Merson says he would be very surprised if Manchester City beat Liverpool at the Etihad tomorrow night.

The TV pundit thinks Pep Guardiola’s side have defended very poorly in recent games and he can’t see them holding out against the rampant Reds:

“This might sound silly, but I’d be shocked if Manchester City won this game. I’d be shocked. I just can’t see how they can stop Liverpool from scoring goals. As the game goes on, I just don’t see how Liverpool don’t go on to win it.”

Merson has gone for a 3-1 win to Liverpool and for Jurgen Klopp‘s side to extend their lead at the top of the Premier League table to nine points.

City’s chances of getting the win tomorrow night have been boosted by the news that Kevin De Bruyne could be back for the game.

The Belgian international missed the 3-1 win over Southampton at the weekend due to a knock but he will have a late fitness test before the match.

Reds supporters will likely be hoping that De Bruyne doesn’t make it, but with the Merseysiders still unbeaten in the league this season, they will be confident of getting a result no matter who is in City’s starting eleven.
