Milner hails Salah and Mane after Manchester City display

James Milner says he was thrilled to see Sadio Mane and Mohamed Salah back on the scoresheet against Manchester City yesterday afternoon, and expects the duo to enjoy another fine season at Anfield next term.

Both Mane and Salah found the net as Liverpool beat Manchester City 2-1 at the MetLife Stadium yesterday in their International Champions Cup game.

Leroy Sane had given City the lead early in the second half, however Salah cancelled out the German’s opener with a fine header – less than a minute after entering the game as a substitute.

Mane then won the game from the spot for Jurgen Klopp’s men in injury time, after Dominic Solanke was brought down in the area.

And Milner, who was one of only two Liverpool players to play the whole 90 minutes in New York, says he is thrilled to see the goal-hungry duo back and firing on all cylinders.

“It shows how much they give to the side, with and without the ball and the chances they create,” said Milner of the pair’s performance.

“They probably could have had three [goals] each.

“That’s pleasing signs for their first action and they’re obviously sharp and don’t need too many practice matches by the looks of it.”

Liverpool next take on Manchester United tomorrow at the Michigan Stadium in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
